Wide Leg Denim Trousers – ASOS

Okay, this post is slightly (very) more politically charged than any other I have ever written or will ever write. Which is also why I chose to put up pictures of me looking generally dissatisfied. Recently, I’ve been overwhelmed with information about the Brexit campaign and personally, I think it’s an incredibly stupid one at that. Why would you choose to leave the EU when doing so would probably – most definitely in my opinion- lead to another recession? (I quite like being able to travel freely through Europe too)

The Brexit campaign in my eyes is entirely based upon prejudice and racism which supporters of anti-immigration revel in. Furthermore, the UK would lose out on investment from abroad and in the long run, the power of its financial sector would diminish. Bye bye influence on the global economy!

I’ve been talking to friends, family and even strangers about the upcoming EU referendum and how incredibly important it is to vote to remain. Some of the people I have talked to were actually going to vote to leave but had no reasoning behind why they had decided to do so – which was frustrating for me. And that’s when I realised that quite a few people will ultimately vote for Brexit or not at all due to being unable to gather sufficient information or judging the situation superficially. This vote really does matter to every single person that lives in Britain as its outcome will directly affect us all.

Now, I don’t normally voice my opinion in politics or on anything at all really on social media platforms but this is too important to glaze over. So, I wrote a little poem to kind of sum it up, this is also the first time I’ll be sharing my poetry on ModainLondres 🙂

Leaving without cause for letting

Creeds drawn up over times unteeming.

Investment drying over periods of heavy rain

We can’t possibly choose not to remain

Deafening roars of self subjugation versus a country with flourishing life

Resurrection

Of commerce and communication,

Thoughts and contemplating over treaties of trade

And financial sector complaints.

I would lose friends and so would you

If and when

The UK chooses to refrain

From staying,

Streaming,

Conducting,

Teaming with the EU.

Staying in benefits us all

Leaving will cause our country to fall.

(And my best friend will have to relocate to Germany so vote to stay thanks)

These are my two cents and although, I don’t wish to influence or corner anyone into accommodating my stance, I do want to urge everyone that is able to vote to look up information on the pros and cons. Make up your own mind on the issue and please, please vote! I know a lot of the time, we (I) think that your vote doesn’t make a difference but I know that if all the people who did think that took a stand, then the results of any election or vote for dairy-free ice cream in cafeteria’s would reflect their efforts. Ripple effect and all.

But yeah mainly vote so my best friends – both of them, won’t have to move away ok thanks xxx

Hey Hey,

So I’ve decided against writing posts that focus primarily on talking about what I’m wearing and why I chose to do so because I’ve come to realise that sometimes, I just throw things on and my outfits come through for me (I love those kind of days). More importantly, I got bored with blogging because I was trying to fit this niche of a fashion blogger that posts about just that and that’s not who I inherently am, and it’s why I guess I stayed away for so long.

This blog will now be an open space for anything and everything that inspires or interests me and with this change, my posts will definitely be more regular and well, more me. I’ll be putting my poetry up as well as little travel stories/rants/anything that comes to mind really and I hope you’ll all be accepting of that change. It’s definitely going to change ModainLondres’s layout and overall appeal – maybe – who knows really? (Social media Gods do)

That being said, I am still very passionate about personal style and honing/expressing your own identity through the clothes that you choose to adorn yourself with. Like, hey peg trousers where have you been for the majority of my life? I’m way too much of a committment-phobe to commit to wearing skinny jeans 5/7 days a week and I never quite understood the aesthetic of loose-fitting clothes until quite recently – okay major lie*

I understood, I just didn’t think it was for me – until I rediscovered these trousers in my wardrobe, like damn, I think I might have worn them all week if I wasn’t so regimented with my denim. The khaki top was a birthday present from my sister – thanks again xx and it is so comfortable and the right level of cropped, it’s short but not short enough to feel outed by the cold and that just makes me happy (and warm)

Plus its a great summer colour *prays for sunshine tomorrow*

I’m also going to attempt to trangress the boundaries within which I feel comfortable and so there will be also be a few beauty and (LUSH) hauls on here fairly soon!

And I solemnly promise not to disappear for another 8 months

Nailah xxx

Ola, Ola!

I started classes at university this week so haven’t had the time to upload the second part of my collaborative shoot with Faisal until now (I blame my time management and all the reading I had to catch up on). A major influence on the styling of this shoot -which was super fun as I’m sure you could tell, I do love my playgrounds! – was the aesthetic of minimalism and monochrome, two of my most favourite styles. I aimed to maintain youthful composure coupled with a sophistication that lends itself with years amassed on ones time scale, trying to keep the look contained to the boundaries of the persona that I wished to reflect. Ripped jeans are amazing and often a fashion staple associated with grunge – very rock and roll, very prominent in the 1980’s-90’s and they make comebacks every few years with runways paying ode to the aforementioned grunge/rock and roll culture i.e. Christopher Decarnin for Balmain 2009 S/S collection. I would have made a more recent example but that was the only one that popped into my head right now haha. I’ve been an advocate of grunge music/fashion for as long as I can remember and have always enjoyed playing around with pieces to create new looks that emulate the attitude as well as it’s carefree spirit with darker undertones… or maybe I just love the colour black?

The asymmetrical hemmed white blouse was purchased years ago from Zara in Portugal and until recently hadn’t been used much if at all so I was glad to weave it into my look – I won’t lie, it is now one of my favourite pieces and I shake my head in disapproval at myself often for not making more use of it in the past. I also combined two necklaces to give the look more of an edge – a velvet band choker (go grunge!) and a softer wooden beaded necklace in order to neutralise the look. Overall, I think it worked well, what says you?

Shooting with Faisal was a pleasure and I hope to have a few more collaborations with him in the future but I’m currently looking for a photographer that could shoot on a more frequent basis. Hit me up if you’re interested (and live in London)! Until then posts may be a bit on the sparse side but I will be focusing on street style in the coming weeks so perhaps not (:

Here’s to the weekend! (One more day to go) XO

Guess who’s back, back again*

Hello hello!

Being back after two months of absence feels slightly strange but it’s been a hectic last few months what with exams and uni preparation, summer being a gentle reprieve from reality of course. I didn’t quite realise how much I had missed blogging until I started writing this post. Why did I ever stop eh?

Anyway, last week I had a mini test shoot with my friend, Faisal, a talented photographer trying his hand at fashion photography and these are some of the results from the shoot – which I have split up into two parts in order to distinguish the two looks I styled. Recently I’ve been trying to accommodate my personal style and as we do, purchased a new signature scent (it smells divine, divine, divine) and changed my shade of lipstick in the process. The look I was going for here was very laid back with hints of sophistication and a sort of rebellious youthful air; hence the mashup of style paradigms. Given my brief overview does it come as any surprise that we chose to shoot in Camden?

Do check out Faisal’s photography on his:

Say heyyy Ms Carterrr *waits for response*

I’ve been awful these last few weeks, disappearing without a word and practically abandoning my blog but I needed the break from reality and I’m well and truly back now! Today I thought I’d share two outfits I put together – seeing as I owe you this much at the least- Bank Fashion (love them) sent me a few samples earlier last week and now I get to share them with you all 🙂

The lace top is the cutest thing and as I have a bit of an obsession with the fabric and its texture, I adored it almost instantly. The high waisted jeans are super comfy and fit just right although not as tight as I would have liked around the ankles but that’s mainly because I have really skinny ankles compared to the rest of well, you get it. Don’t you just adore and covet my two toned boots? I’d been looking for a monochrome pair to go with my seemingly all black wardrobe (shout out to BEGS XO) and they are just perfect in every single way, be it the fit, the length and width of the heel, the laces, the zip details – EVERYTHING! Also how adorable is the sheer kaftan? Can you believe it’s only £6?! I couldn’t at all. I think it works perfectly as throw over for most outfits and love that I found it when I did – thank you H&M<3

I can’t really tell what was going through my head when I put together the second outfit. I just sort of threw things on and had a general direction of what kind of look I was aiming for. I have to say, it worked out pretty well. I’ve never really owned a swing styled dress in such a bold print before and was a bit unsure of how it would look on me but I’m kind of crazy about this piece now. The material is like imitation silk and the asymmetrical hemming of the dress as well as it’s fit – the way it flows and drapes ones form – is different to most that I have seen worn by people and for that reason it has captured my heart all the more. The accessories I paired it with gave off a slightly dark yet earthy vibe which I feel enveloped a lot of different styles – sort of a mess of the hippie 70’s and grunge 80’s, sixties’s vie de boheme with slight 1920’s flapper tendencies (never could say no to a lace headband – one of my weaknesses shh)

Hope everyone’s had a good start to the week!

A lot inspired this set in particular, one of the main influences being the Tuxedo dress. I’ve always had a thing for suits in particular the slim fit kind worn by the menfolk (maybe I’ll be a menswear designer one day, who knows). I keep saying that I’m going to wear one to the next wedding I go to… which may be why I haven’t been invited to one in so long. Not that I’m complaining!
This Tuxedo dress is almost an exact replica of the original Alexander McQueen one and for that reason asides from the fact that it looks so good, I purchased it from River Island as soon as I was  able to. Sadly they only had it in the size above and that didn’t fit well at all so I had to sell it.(Sad but I still made a 100% profit – Business has always more or less been my forte). I also have a huge love for face veils, some may say that they arouse an air of morbidity as they’re often worn at funerals but I think there’s something undeniably chic about them. That veil worked into an undo with the cats eye glasses would create a vision of 1960’s glamour which I feel needs to make a comeback pronto!
I kept the jewellery simple for this set as the Versace earrings paired with anything other than the minimal thin Gold bangles would, to me, look gaudy. Aren’t the heels amazing as well? The Gold  ankle cuff link detail complements the inclusion of the jewellery and the minimal beauty which I envisioned as a simple liquid eyeliner and rouge lips and nails look completes the ensemble.
I’ve been listening to a lot of Lana Del Rey lately and feeling the need to dress up at odd moments so as to encompass her sound in a more material form. Hopefully I’ll have some looks up soon to show y’all my LDR style! 🙂
Hope everyone’s having a great week! Bjs **

Plaid Long Shirt Dress – I managed to find an almost exact match at YesStyle! A shorter version is however available at UNIQLO if that’s more preferable

Boots – Also found these beautiful boots on Ebay!  Definitely grabbing myself a pair as soon as I can!

I shot this couples photo at the Fashionstyleologer fashion book launch and just came across it now. Absolutely loved this woman’s style so decided to make it my next post as it is still technically street style fashion.

I’m not a big fan of wearing leather bralet’s during the day but I liked how it was considerably tamed down by the beige trousers and plaid dress shirt. A very casual and cool look 🙂
