Just a candid of me doing some gardening*

 Top – Zara

Bottoms – Zara

Heels – Pull&Bear

Choker – ASOS

I just want to start with appreciation for this outfit,

It was so fun and free to me,

It seemed like a bird sewed onto a patch of Muslin

Some sort of poppy half turned to a thoughtful period

A colon where a hyphen should be.

That’s what it felt like to me.

Can you tell I’m feeling just a bit carried away with the fairies at the moment?

I leave Lisbon today and as much as it saddens me to go, I’ve got sooo much I want to do/learn/create when I’m back that the thoughts of all that could be fills me with endless excitement. I am literally exasperated that I can’t start until I’m back home!

But more on what I wore. Both the top and jeans were finds in Zara that normally I would have walked past but my style is constantly in a state of metamorphosis and I feel like I needed these youthful emblem’s in my wardrobe. A stamp of credibility that I’m not stuck in a rut with my style and haven’t settled on a certain school of stylistic thought pattern etc etc.

I love the splashes of colour in this outfit and really although, I’m more of an extroverted introvert looking back at the accessory choices I made on that day, I’m a fan of the pink lace choker and the green hair (re-dyed that morning, just sayin’). The brilliant green of the plants behind me and the rose that I had in my hair. I didn’t want to desecrate the flower to stand in for an accessory and so, I created an illusion and didn’t pluck it. Take care of your gardens guys, you gotta show love for the earth that sustains our species (:

Got to go and get some last minute packing done now,

Until I’m back in London and have more to show y’all,

Take care and have a great weekend xxx

P.S I associated the print on the back of the shirt to Drake and so, in his words’F**k a Fake Friend where your Real Friends at?’

(I’m excited to see mine soon, ciao!)

Trousers – Topshop/Alternative

Heels – Pull&Bear

Olaaa,

I’ve been waiting to wear this outfit out for weeks and finally got a chance to a couple of days ago when it got cooler in the evening for me to don the peg trousers and long sleeved open drape top. I think exposed backs have an increasingly sexy allure and although, I don’t show mine often, I feel incredibly confident when I do.

On a side note, I also really hate wearing skinny jeans at the moment so these trousers (like the others I’ve been wearing recently) gave me room to breathe and just slouch/relax ygm? (You get me?) The heels were also a great find in Pull&Bear’s outlet store (I got them for 10 euros less than you would have at normal stores – still a bargain haha) and they are comfortable to walk in for hours thanks to the thicker heel and sole.

I also leave Lisbon in a couple of days and it’s breaking my heart to go so soon. I usually stay for five weeks or so but I’ve got a lot going on with prepping for third year and various projects and cut my visit to three weeks… which feels kind of odd. The familia is as sad as I am to see me leave and honestly, this summer, like every other has really changed my perception on certain things. It is in this city that I learn more about myself and revert to my true form, around kin and kind that feel the same.

I’ve also got a lot of cool ideas for Modainlondres and the inspiration that has stemmed for this verao (summer) is definitely going to stick around and materialise very soon!

Until then,

Ate Ja xxx

Turtleneck Top – New Look/ASOS

Skirt – ASOS

Sneakers – Nike

Bonjour mes amis,

I was in Paris at the end of the month for my best friend’s birthday and thought I’d try to rustle together a blog post to commemorate the trip (and her birthday ofc). Firstly, I just want to say that button up skirts are some of the cutest articles of clothing ever! They make me feel like I live in the countryside, on a prairie like Dorothy – or maybe that’s just the feel that this skirt in particular gave me with its rust colouring and two toned stripes. Either way, I need to invest in more of this particular style of skirt. This outfit was very conservative with its high neck and tights but I quite enjoyed it, it not only made me feel quite mature but gave me these later 80 campus feels (like Clueless but with a longer skirt)

Another thing I became aware of after arriving in Paris – apart from how well I seemed to blend in – mostly because I was wearing mostly black, was how undeniably chic the women there were. There is definitely a cultural appeal about Parisian women, namely that they are immaculately, effortlessly, becomingly stylish and chic, carry themselves with poise and have an explicit presence. More than how they dress, it is not their style that gives them that presence (although it definitely doesn’t hurt) but their attitude.

“You have this ‘Je ne sais quoi’ quality about you”

“She has this Joie de vivre”

Are both French qualities that are constrained within the French language and although they can be prescribed to others outside of the nationality, they cannot be translated. In a way, it is the French attitude that is unable to be transformed or transfigured into any other kind that is not what it first was (French). I feel like that got a bit complicated whilst I was trying to figure out what it was that I was trying to say but ultimately, the French have this sexy confidence that is expressed through their style and the way they carry themselves. Something I both admire and attempt to emulate within my day to day life.

Another interesting element of my trip was the discovery of Paul Signac’s work. So, if I remember correctly, he was an early 20th century Neo-impressionist French painter who painted in dots of pure colour. His paintings were not only fun to look at but incredibly breathtaking when peered closely at. It was crazy to view all the dots that made up the trunk of a tree or the sea – oh wow, the way this man painted the sea! I was in awe truth be told, not only because he was so talented but also because I’m so lazy that to think that someone would take hours on end to paint in dots and create such a masterpiece stirs all sorts of emotions within me. Mostly  it makes me wish I wasn’t so lazy haha.

I’ve included some pictures of his work below for you all to have a look for yourself, although if you want the real deal – Go to Musee D’Orsay if ever in Paris, you will not regret it. Asides from Signac, there is a lot of incredible art (Van Gogh, Picasso etc etc) to enjoy 🙂

Okay, this post is slightly (very) more politically charged than any other I have ever written or will ever write. Which is also why I chose to put up pictures of me looking generally dissatisfied. Recently, I’ve been overwhelmed with information about the Brexit campaign and personally, I think it’s an incredibly stupid one at that. Why would you choose to leave the EU when doing so would probably – most definitely in my opinion- lead to another recession? (I quite like being able to travel freely through Europe too)

The Brexit campaign in my eyes is entirely based upon prejudice and racism which supporters of anti-immigration revel in. Furthermore, the UK would lose out on investment from abroad and in the long run, the power of its financial sector would diminish. Bye bye influence on the global economy!

I’ve been talking to friends, family and even strangers about the upcoming EU referendum and how incredibly important it is to vote to remain. Some of the people I have talked to were actually going to vote to leave but had no reasoning behind why they had decided to do so – which was frustrating for me. And that’s when I realised that quite a few people will ultimately vote for Brexit or not at all due to being unable to gather sufficient information or judging the situation superficially. This vote really does matter to every single person that lives in Britain as its outcome will directly affect us all.

Now, I don’t normally voice my opinion in politics or on anything at all really on social media platforms but this is too important to glaze over. So, I wrote a little poem to kind of sum it up, this is also the first time I’ll be sharing my poetry on ModainLondres 🙂

Leaving without cause for letting

Creeds drawn up over times unteeming.

Investment drying over periods of heavy rain

We can’t possibly choose not to remain

Deafening roars of self subjugation versus a country with flourishing life

Resurrection

Of commerce and communication,

Thoughts and contemplating over treaties of trade

And financial sector complaints.

I would lose friends and so would you

If and when

The UK chooses to refrain

From staying,

Streaming,

Conducting,

Teaming with the EU.

Staying in benefits us all

Leaving will cause our country to fall.

(And my best friend will have to relocate to Germany so vote to stay thanks)

These are my two cents and although, I don’t wish to influence or corner anyone into accommodating my stance, I do want to urge everyone that is able to vote to look up information on the pros and cons. Make up your own mind on the issue and please, please vote! I know a lot of the time, we (I) think that your vote doesn’t make a difference but I know that if all the people who did think that took a stand, then the results of any election or vote for dairy-free ice cream in cafeteria’s would reflect their efforts. Ripple effect and all.

But yeah mainly vote so my best friends – both of them, won’t have to move away ok thanks xxx

Hey Hey,

So I’ve decided against writing posts that focus primarily on talking about what I’m wearing and why I chose to do so because I’ve come to realise that sometimes, I just throw things on and my outfits come through for me (I love those kind of days). More importantly, I got bored with blogging because I was trying to fit this niche of a fashion blogger that posts about just that and that’s not who I inherently am, and it’s why I guess I stayed away for so long.

This blog will now be an open space for anything and everything that inspires or interests me and with this change, my posts will definitely be more regular and well, more me. I’ll be putting my poetry up as well as little travel stories/rants/anything that comes to mind really and I hope you’ll all be accepting of that change. It’s definitely going to change ModainLondres’s layout and overall appeal – maybe – who knows really? (Social media Gods do)

That being said, I am still very passionate about personal style and honing/expressing your own identity through the clothes that you choose to adorn yourself with. Like, hey peg trousers where have you been for the majority of my life? I’m way too much of a committment-phobe to commit to wearing skinny jeans 5/7 days a week and I never quite understood the aesthetic of loose-fitting clothes until quite recently – okay major lie*

I understood, I just didn’t think it was for me – until I rediscovered these trousers in my wardrobe, like damn, I think I might have worn them all week if I wasn’t so regimented with my denim. The khaki top was a birthday present from my sister – thanks again xx and it is so comfortable and the right level of cropped, it’s short but not short enough to feel outed by the cold and that just makes me happy (and warm)

Plus its a great summer colour *prays for sunshine tomorrow*

I’m also going to attempt to trangress the boundaries within which I feel comfortable and so there will be also be a few beauty and (LUSH) hauls on here fairly soon!

And I solemnly promise not to disappear for another 8 months

Nailah xxx

Hello hello!

Being back after two months of absence feels slightly strange but it’s been a hectic last few months what with exams and uni preparation, summer being a gentle reprieve from reality of course. I didn’t quite realise how much I had missed blogging until I started writing this post. Why did I ever stop eh?

Anyway, last week I had a mini test shoot with my friend, Faisal, a talented photographer trying his hand at fashion photography and these are some of the results from the shoot – which I have split up into two parts in order to distinguish the two looks I styled. Recently I’ve been trying to accommodate my personal style and as we do, purchased a new signature scent (it smells divine, divine, divine) and changed my shade of lipstick in the process. The look I was going for here was very laid back with hints of sophistication and a sort of rebellious youthful air; hence the mashup of style paradigms. Given my brief overview does it come as any surprise that we chose to shoot in Camden?

Do check out Faisal’s photography on his:

And with that I bid you adieu until the next post,

This couple pretty much made my day and I may have, mayyy have (maybe have) followed up after first seeing them in order to take this picture for ModainLondres (I pretty much stalked them why lie). They just corresponded so well with one other both in terms of appearance and style. I love how smart casual the girl was dressed whereas her boyfriend was just exceedingly casual. They were such a good looking couple too! I think the man might have been French which makes him even more so attractive. Those damn French accents ugh.

So I haven’t been blogging regularly as some of you might have noticed but I do have my reasons, the main being exams which have thus led to all my energy being spent on revision leaving me quite lethargic at the end of the day. Only a few more weeks to go and then I’ll be back and better for it since it will be summer. Finally.

Hope y’all have a great weekend and coming week and to anyone else facing finals, Good Luck!
